This blog, first conceived in the lonely hinterland of the Atlantic Monthly intern office, has two people to thank for it's existence. There's Moses Herzog (libertarian rapscallion) for giving me the idea to post brain farts in 10-point font on the web, and Ben Harper (my favorite musician) for giving it the title. I thought about naming this blog after Ludacris and calling the blog "Ludacrisp," which sounded cool and could be the name of a kid's cereal. But I like Ben Harper's music much more, and he has cooler hair. Plus, he's a halfbreed, which is always a plus in my book, even though I guess that disqualifies me from ever becoming a Grand Wizard. Sacrifices, sacrifices.

There are people who can spend all day at this blog thing and undoubtedly exceed my quanitity of text by several orders of magnitude. My former editor at a newspaper got a JOB in journalism because of his personal blog. Granted, it's not a very GOOD journalism job. On the scale of influence in the scribbler profession, he's probably the equivalent of a lawnmower jockey, fluffer, or Ben Affleck. But everyone has to begin somewhere, and I just fired off the starter's pistol for myself. Here goes something or, possibly, nothing.
